When it comes to your health, not all salads are created equal. In fact, many takeout and restaurant salads are essentially calorie bombs disguised as health food—drenched in creamy, caloric dressings and missing key nutrients with powerful disease-fighting potential. Next time you make your own salad, here’s exactly what to include for maximum health benefits—and taste.1. Start with dark, leafy greens For the healthiest salad foundation, stick with a mix of spinach, arugula, and romaine. They contain a hefty amount of the B vitamin folate, which has been shown to reduce the risk of getting colorectal, ovarian and breast cancers. In one study, researchers at Vanderbilt University found that women who ate the mostly dark greens were among the least likely to get breast cancer. Apparently, folate can halt changes in DNA that trigger runaway cell growth, the main characteristic of cancer.

6 year old Elena Desserich was diagnosed with brain cancer, she began hiding hundreds of little love notes around the house for her parents to find after she was gone. Just before her sixth birthday, Elena Desserich was diagnosed with brain cancer and given 135 days to live. She lived 255 days, and passed away in 2007. After her death, Elena’s parents, Brooke and Keith, found hundreds of notes from Elena hidden around the house. They were found in between CD cases, bookshelves, in dresser drawers, in backpacks. "It just felt like a little hug from her, like she was telling us she was looking over us". That headset wearing guy Vince who is slapping and chopping with great excitement must know some secret trick or have had some kind of special advantage with the food he was using. Maybe it was pre-cut. Who knows? But outside that studio, WalletPop put Slap Chop to the test -- both in a regular kitchen and the kitchen of someone who chops for a living. The result: not so good. Slap Chop couldn't cut through the outside of a tomato. It left a tomato cut-apart inside while still held together by a cut, but not cut-through skin. Other items on the chopping block, such as an onion. Unlike Vince's experience it had to be prepped so much for slapping, it was hardly worth the bother of adding another tool to the mix.
