Mini mum's miracle baby

Karina White is often stopped by strangers as she pushes her daughter's pram through the streets near her home. Given that she can barely peer over the top, passers-by are usually concerned that a baby has been left in the care of a young child. It's only on closer inspection that they realise Karina is actually a mature woman. She just happens never to have grown taller than an average six-year-old. Karina is 3ft 9in and one of the smallest women in Britain ever to have given birth. More than that, the 33-year-old risked her life to become a mother, having defied doctors who warned her pregnancy could kill her. They simply did not believe there was enough space within her tiny body to carry a baby virtually to term.
But she was determined to become the first woman with her condition to successfully give birth. Today, she and her husband Paul could not be happier, and they pay little heed to the astonished looks she attracts as she wheels their daughter around their home town of Bolton in Lancashire.

Paul McCartney & John Lennon

Sir Paul McCartney has spoken out about his relationship with John Lennon and denied reports that they didn't get on. Sir Paul, 66, has revealed the truth about his friendship with his Beatles bandmate, who was shot dead outside his home in 1980. Behind the Fights, the singer denied claims that John had complained in interviews that he had ruined songs by not committing enough creative energy to them. Sir Paul said "Oh, he was on drugs, wasn't he? This is the trouble with history, with journalism. John said so much c**p that he later said he hadn't meant. It's bulls**t." He also told the UK's Radio Times magazine: "The image of John is seriously flawed because he was not the hard, mad man that people think he was. He was a very soft-centered guy and we had a lot more in common than people think. "Whatever bad things John said about me, he would also slip his glasses down to the end of his nose and say, 'I love you'. That's really what I hold on to. That's what I believe. The rest is showing off."

Jackson death homicide, sedatives primary cause

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Michael Jackson's death was a homicide caused primarily by the powerful anesthetic propofol and another sedative, the coroner announced Friday in a highly anticipated ruling that increases the likelihood of criminal charges against the pop star's personal doctor.
The Los Angeles County coroner's office determined the cause of death was "acute propofol intoxication." Other sedatives contributed to the death, most notably lorazepam, sold under the brand name Ativan. Additional drugs detected in Jackson's system were midazolam, diazepam, lidocaine and ephedrine.
The coroner did not release Jackson's full autopsy report, citing an ongoing security hold at the request of Los Angeles authorities as they continue investigating the case.
The 50-year-old Jackson died June 25 at his rented Los Angeles mansion. Dr. Conrad Murray, the Las Vegas cardiologist who was the pop star's personal physician, told police he gave Jackson propofol that morning after a series of sedatives failed to help Jackson sleep.

Topless Camaro

Spending $16,000 or more to make a Camaro into a Camaro convertible isn't a rational decision, but we can certainly understand people wanting one.
We drove the concept version of this car from Chevrolet two years ago ("Top This!" AW, July 2, 2007) and loved it. Back then, Chevrolet planned to release a convertible version of the new Camaro in November 2009, but an economic cliff intervened, pushing production to the second quarter of 2011. You could die of Camaro lust by then, or you could buy your Camaro convertible from Newport Convertible Engineering in Placentia, Calif.
Newport Convertible has always done a solid engineering job (fit and finish being another matter). They reinforce the windshield frame, the roof pillars, the rear seatback area and the undercarriage to compensate for the loss of the top structure. Newport claims that all of that reinforcement doesn't increase the curb weight of the car. We didn't have a scale when we drove one.
