Minnesota Head Over Heels in Favre

MINNEAPOLIS -- As much as they could hate anything in the land of Garrison Keillor, cheesy brats and county fairs, they used to hate Brett Favre. His name was bastardized into "Farce" and "Fart." They lived to decibel-blast him into making mistakes, often succeeding during his 6-10 career with Green Bay in the Metrodome. The ear-torturing horn, the wild-haired Norsemen on motorcycles, the Led Zeppelin riffs -- "We come from the land of the ice and snow" -- all of it was aimed at the symbolic mortal enemy in the Vikings-Packers rivalry. But now, in a surreal twist perhaps unprecedented in American sports, Favre is a Viking whose No. 4 jersey is bathed in purple. And now, with predictable fickleness, the same fans absolutely adore the man they loathed for 16 years. Can you think of another athletic legend who literally crossed lines and joined blood rivals? An itchy Michael Jordan signed with the non-descript Washington Wizards. Joe Montana finished up with the Kansas City Chiefs, who evoke no emotion in San Francisco. Wayne Gretzky skated out his career for U.S. teams that meant little to the parochial puckheads in Canada. In complete contrast, Favre has joined the heated division rival in the next state over from Wisconsin, making his Friday night preseason debut with the Vikings a study in human psychology. Shouldn't we have allowed a chance for some awkward emotions?

Passengers Spent 6 Hours Trapped

WASHINGTON (Aug. 21) -- The pilot of an airliner stranded overnight on an airport tarmac in Minnesota pleaded unsuccessfully for her 47 passengers to be allowed to get off and go inside a terminal. "We just need to work out some way to get them off ... We can't keep them here any longer," she said.
The Transportation Department on Friday released recordings of the repeated appeals by the pilot and her airline's dispatchers earlier this month while passengers were kept waiting for about six hours in the cramped plane amid crying babies and a smelly toilet before they were allowed to deplane.
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said an investigation by his department found that u 22816 for Continental Airlines, wasn't at fault in the tarmac stranding.

1 of the Worlds Wirdest Hotels

Crash in a jet plane
Near a beach that's within Manuel Antonio National Park, the Hotel Costa Verde doesn't lack for great sights. But few are as amazing as its own 727 Fuselage Suite, a salvaged 1965 Boeing 727-100 that looks as if it's crashed into the Costa Rican jungle. It's actually mounted atop a 50 foot pillar and reached via a spiral staircase. The jet's interior was once able to hold up to 125 passengers, but there are few reminders left of its days in the service of South African Airways and Colombia's Avianca Airlines.

2010 Buick LaCrosse

Detroit, Michigan — Unless you're receiving mail from the AARP, chances are you've never looked at a Buick and said the words, "Oh, I gotta get me one of those!" There was a time when that wasn't the case, when Buick represented something other than your grandfather's car. Something a respected doctor might have. What's old is new again, and Buick's going to easily lure in new blood with this LaCrosse.
At the Detroit auto show we lauded the global approach to styling and design. Having been jointly developed by GM in China, Europe and North America, the car is attractive. But, as we all know, you can't judge a car by its shiny 3-shield badge alone.
My first experience behind the wheel is in a top-of-the-line CXS outfitted with $5560 worth of options that puts its test price just under $40,000. The car feels and looks classy enough to be a Cadillac. The two-tone interior is pleasantly sculpted. North American Vehicle Line Director Jeanne Merchant pointed out the Chinese influence in the design of the car, which resulted in curves and alternating colors that follow a yin-yang theme.
Aesthetically it works very well. A base level CX with steel wheels can be had for $27,835, but most buyers will opt for the CXL, which is in the mid $30s and undercuts a Lexus ES by a good amount.

Blueberries health

"Berries are good for the brain. Research has shown that blueberries can help to protect the brain against oxidative stress and inflammation, both of which play important roles in brain aging," explains Dr. Pratt. Studies have demonstrated that a diet rich in anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory agents found in blueberries (as well as cranberries, strawberries, purple grapes and raspberries) may lower the risk of developing age-related neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. To get the full benefits eat one to two cups of blueberries on a daily basis.

Almonds health

It’s important to consume foods that are rich in vitamin E, which is excellent for brain, eye and hearing health," says Dr. Pratt. Eating just one layer of these nuts from the palm of your hand five times a week will provide an excellent source of Vitamin E. A study published in the "Journal of the American Dietetic Association" confirmed that eating almonds significantly increased Vitamin E levels in the blood and red blood cells. Almonds also helped lower cholesterol levels. His recommendation? Eat raw almonds or ones that have been dry roasted instead of cooked in oil.

Celine Dion pregnant

Not only is Celine Dion pregnant at the age of 41, the child that she has conceived was from an embryo that the music star had frozen eight years ago.Dion's doctor, Dr. Zev Rosenwaks, tells PEOPLE that he performend the in vitro fertilization for Celine's pregnancy, and that when he informed her that the pregnancy had taken, he "could hear her chuckling" with joy. "She was very happy. So was RenDion had her embryos frozen while the couple was trying to conceive their first child together, Rene-Charles. Rene was born in 2001, and years later in 2009, the frozen embryos were still good to use. "She came back to have the embryos transferred back because she wanted to have another baby," Rosenwaks says. The doctor says that "there have been embryos that have been [frozen] for more than 10 years, and even more than 15 years, that have successfully thawed and resulted in a pregnancy," so Dion's eight year timeframe was of no major concern. They are both very thankful

Nick Schuyler his survival Tale

Six months after a boating accident took the lives of NFL players Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith and former South Florida player Will Bleakley, the lone survivor has spoken out on the harrowing ordeal of being stranded in the ocean and watching his friends die.Nick Schuyler, who played with Bleakley at South Florida and worked as a personal trainer for Cooper and Smith, went boating with his three friends the morning of February 28 thinking they had a fun fishing trip ahead of them. But, as he told HBO's Bernard Goldberg in an interview for Tuesday's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, things went terribly wrong when they attempted to speed the boat forward while it was still anchored

Super Health

This fruit packs a punch when it comes to stellar health and preventing hearing loss. "We've heard the warnings about keeping blood pressure in check for cardiovascular health but high blood pressure also puts you at risk for degenerative eye diseases and decreased cognitive abilities," says Dr. Pratt. In fact, pomegranates are known as phytochemical powerhouses since they have two to three times the antioxidant power of green tea or red wine. Plus, they possess anti-inflammatory chemicals. "This is one reason why they have been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer. It also appears that pomegranate juice might be helpful in preventing certain types of hearing loss." His advice? Drink one half to one cup of 100 percent pomegranate juice five to seven days per week.

Dog Business Class

The story of a woman who paid $32,000 to fly her boxer dog, Orchuk, with her in business class is raising eyebrows all over the world. NY cruise vacation alternative

NEW YORK (AP) — So you're looking for a unique vacation something where you'll get to see a lot of sites for not a lot of cash. How about a slow boat to China? (Or Brazil or Europe or Australia...) A number of cargo ship companies make their freighters available for a limited number of guests traveling to a number of exotic destinations, sometimes for less money than a conventional cruise. And don't worry, you won't have to swab the decks. Many ships that take on passengers are more equipped than one would think. You'll have you're own room and generally some other perks including TV and movies, reading and exercise rooms. And often with less than 10 passengers, you'll likely get very personal attention including sharing meals with the ship's crew and personal tours of the "guts" of a working freighter. Heck, some even have a pool. There's also the enjoyment of peace and quiet on the high seas lounging on the deck all day with no real planned activities other than meals. Though, you'll have to share that deck with massive cargo containers that sometimes make for a less-than-majestic view.

Why Some Get A Freezing Headache?

"Ice cream" headache is a bit of a misnomer, though it remains a major culprit. Any number of items: frozen treats, ice, cold soda and many other cold foods and drinks can rain down the screaming, stabbing pain. The combination of cold drink or food hitting the roof of the mouth or back of the throat sets off the headache, which is also known as brain freeze. It triggers nerves that give the brain the impression of a very cold environment. To heat up the brain again, blood vessels start to swell, which causes the headache-like pain for approximately 30 seconds.

Paige Dean, 11, was listening to the radio in her grandparents' car when she accidentally disengaged the hand brake and the vehicle began to roll. Paige jumped out just before the car plunged 250 feet over a cliff in North Wales and landed in the sea below. She suffered only minor cuts and scrapes in the Aug. 15 incident"I dropped my phone down the side of the car and when I reached over to get it I accidentally knocked the brake off," Paige told the BBC.
The car began to roll and quickly picked up speed. It knocked down several unoccupied tents at the campground and then hurtled toward a sheer cliff. Paige realized she had to act fast. She managed to open a car door moments before the car sailed over the precipice.
Paige said she saw the car go over the cliff. It landed in the water and was quickly submerged. "I definitely would have died. I have never been so scared," she told the BBC.
Paige's grandparents, who look after the girl and her younger brother, watched in horror as the car went over the cliff. Billy Dean did not realize his granddaughter had escaped.
"I could not believe what was happening. I ran after the car and I saw her jump out. But my husband Billy didn't realize and shouted 'she's gone,'" said Marie Dean, Paige's grandmother.

Economic worries

What in the world has happened to the stock market?

*Just about everything has gone wrong with the stocks that brought the rally this far.

*Tech stocks are weak. Oil stocks have dropped. Metals stocks have slumped. Banks are down.

*It's that kind of day, but it could be worse. The Dow Jones industrials were down as many as 205 points, rebounded a bit and were down 165 points, or 1.8% at 3:05 p.m. ET.

The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was off 22 points/2.2%. And the Nasdaq Composite Index tumbled 50 points/2.5%. Its sister index, the Nasdaq-100 Index , was off 42 points/2.6%. The Nasdaq-100 tracks the largest Nasdaq stocks.

Squirrel crasher 100% real!

It was the perfect backdrop for a vacation photo. The gorgeous mountain lake with a rocky shore and a big Canadian sky. It was the sort of shot that a couple put in their personal album and share with their family and friends for years. Ah perfect right? And then the squirrel popped up! Funny huh?
Since you have an Internet connection, you’ve probably seen the shot of the camera-hog squirrel stealing the scene and the hearts of pand, contrary to reservations TODAY’s Matt Lauer expressed on the air last Friday, "It’s not fake, it’s 100 percent undoctored”. Faced with Melissa and her husband, Jackson Brandts, Lauer tried his best to weasel out of his skeptical comments of last week. “I can’t be the only one who questioned the authenticity of that, right?” he asked, somewhat hopefully.

Mayor was Beaten With a Metal Pipe!!!

A man has been arrested in connection with the beating of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. Barrett was leaving State Fair Park in West Allis Saturday night when he heard a woman crying out for help. Witnesses say the dispute started as a fight over custody of the child. The man appeared to be drunk and threatened to shoot himself and others.
Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn says Barrett approached the woman who was fighting with the suspect and started to call 911. The 20-year-old man then ran at Barrett and began hitting him with a metal pipe. Barrett's brother says the mayor suffered "serious injuries, but no major trauma.Authorities say the accused has an extensive arrest record, including other assaults.
Barrett, 55, was in stable condition at a local hospital with a fractured hand and other head and hand wounds.

A 5yr old HERO :)

While many 5yr olds are still perfecting skills like tying their shoelaces, Tahlique Garay was mastering a different skill: saving his mother's life. When his pregnant mother collapsed onto the floor, the rising first grader stayed calm and called 911 -- what he had been taught to do if Jennifer Garay ever got sick. "My mom was on the floor so I called 911," Garay told reporters.
"I wanted to help her." According to the newspaper, Garay told the emergency operator that his "Mommy, umm... passed out a little bit."
He told the operator his age, gave his Queens address and even remembered important medical information like, "My mommy gets seizures." Ambulances arrived minutes later and EMTs revived Garay, who is due to give birth to a little girl next month.Garay first taught her son about 911 after a seizure. "I didn't want to scare him but I had to tell him what to do if I got sick," she told the NYDN, saying that her son "did everything right."
